New York Fashion Week September 2007

September 11th 2007 - New York Fashion Week

Freddy Antabi defines cool contemporary Scottish hairdressing.  His effortless approach to simple sexy hair has highlighted him as a rising star in the industry.  Therefore, his invitation to work at New York Fashion Week recently came as no surprise.

As part of the creative team at Australian designer Kit Willow’s show, Freddy arrived at the famous Bryant Park Tents in the heart of Manhattan bright and early on the morning of September 11th 2007.  He was joined by host of fellow hairdressers, models, make-up artists and stylists all ready to work their magic in the first show of the day.

Freddy’s brief was to create hair that accentuated the designer's vision without overpowering it.  Freddy explains, “Clothes were loose, flowing layers but with an elegant urban feel and in vivid colours. It was necessary not to try to out-do the clothes so we stuck to soft natural styling, bordering on grungy.”

Low ponytails with centre partings were the look of the show but to modernise, hair was gently backcombed and each girl personalised with fringes and soft pieces hanging out.

Working in sections, Freddy misted models' hair with a flexible-hold styling spray that lends hair subtle shine, then back-combed it from roots to ends.  It was then pulled-back in an almost dollish way.  Freddy used young Hollywood as his inspiration, “with Mischa Barton a huge Willow fan I channelled her look and think pulled it off perfectly.”

The low, grungy ponytail Freddy championed at Willow is certainly a trend to watch out for Spring/Summer 2008 as similar looks were seen at; Viktor & Rolf, Marni, Dolce and Gabbana, Vera Wang and Marc Jacobs.
